How lucky is Elk Grove to have a legitimate Malaysian restaurant?! On a whim I typed in Malaysian food in the vicinity of 99 and I-5 and was surprised to find this place in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. I looked at the menu and decided to give it a try based on what others described. We were so excited and hungry when we arrived that we ordered way too much food! We started with the papaya salad with shrimp. This dish was served as a small portion and lacked real depth of flavor. The dressing on it was a little too sweet for my taste and the sliced shrimp on top was on the skimpy side. It was basically a little mound of green shredded papaya - fine enough but nothing to write home about. Everything else came out within a minute of one another and soon the table was overflowing with delicious food. The roti was fresh and delicious with a perfect dipping sauce on the side. The char kway teow was authentic and delicious. It was supposed to come with shrimp and squid but I only saw two small pieces of shrimp and about 4 pieces of squid. They could really use to fill out their protein in this dish as it was mostly noodles. The flavor was excellent and I would definitely order this again. The fish head curry had a great depth of flavor but the fish meat itself was overcooked and not something I'd order again - also there wasn't a lot of meat (I guess we should have known since it was just the head, but oh well!) Some of the dishes don't say they come with tofu and veggies but you should know the lamb dish comes with really tasty tofu and green beans and the fish head curry came with okra, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and green beans. These were nice surprises. The lamb dish had the most unique flavor and although I am a pescatarian I tried the tofu and green beans in this dish and thought they were excellent. Lastly the Penang shrimp were unique but not what I was expecting. They had the flavor of creamy baked scallops if that makes sense..they came sizzling on the dish and were a generous portion. When all was said and done we needed 3 take home boxes and 2 liquid holding take home containers. Everything tasted just as good when reheated - a sign of good food! Looking forward to coming back in the future. Will definitely have the char kway teow, roti, curry, and tofu and green beans!

FOOD - Roti Telur: flat bread with eggs and curry sauce. This was good. But I think I would have enjoyed it better without the eggs. 4/5 - Chicken Satay: skewered chicken with peanut sauce. So good! The chicken was tender and flavorful. It was good with or without the sauce. 5/5 - Malay Mee Goreng: egg noodles with shrimp, chicken, tofu, potatoes, Chinese broccoli, tomatoes, and bean sprouts. I've only had the instant noodle version of this. It tasted nothing like it. It was still good though. 4/5 - Red Curry with Beef: beef and vegetables in curry and coconut milk. This dish was okay. I like my curry creamier. 3/5 SERVICE: Not the most attentive. After serving our food, they weren't seen again. Not even for the bill. 3/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: I would come back and try other things. Food was mostly good.

We went there again and the food is superb. There were only two of us and we ordered the 炒貴刁and beef. Oh my god the beef was so fiery and good that we have to order and extra chicken rice to go with it. We probably only could eat (stomachs room) like half the dish but we ended up eating the whole thing as it was soooo good!!! We will return! P.s. the promo is going now and it's even more tempting to come on weekdays now!!!

My boyfriend, mom, and I were in the area so we decided to try Melaka Kitchen. It's been bookmarked for a while because I want to try what real Mi Goreng tastes like (I've only had the instant Indomie kind lol). It's located in a strip mall, so there's plenty of parking. IMO - their dishes are kinda a mix between Chinese, Thai, and Indian food. I'm sure there's something on the menu to please everybody. Beef roti murtabak ($11.99): tender beef, egg, and onion wrapped in a thin, soft roti served with curry dipping sauce. Mm! Only complaint is that this was an appetizer, but it came out last. Malay Mee Goreng ($10.99): slightly spicy and sweet saucy noodles with shrimp, chicken, tomatoes, and potatoes! I've never had potatoes in noodles but wow it's my new favorite thing. This dish was super flavorful. It's topped with crushed peanuts and lime juice. It was different than expected, but in a good way! I'm curious what the Indian version tastes like. Hainam Chicken Rice Set ($11.99): tender chicken served cold with yellow rice and two dipping sauces. A classic done right. Delicious. Everything we ate was delicious, so I'd return to try more dishes. I just wish it wasn't out of the way for me! Note: lunch specials and yelp check in offer are only available on weekdays, excluding holidays.

Malay! I've never had Malaysian food before so my friend brought me here to check them out. Came here on a weeknight. When we got in, we were immediately greeted and got our table. This place was pretty much empty. Only 2 other tables were occupied. Since it was my first time, I let my friend in charge of ordering. We got a few dishes. Roti - it is light and crispy. To me, it's like a mixture of crepe and naan together but very thin. It comes with a curry dipping sauce Chicken satay - comes with 5 skewers. The chicken is so tender and moist. Flavorful as well. The dipping sauce helps enhance the flavors. Must try! Santan beef - the beef didn't taste too fresh. Too much coconut milk too. This dish is alright. Hainan chicken - this is a cold dish. The chicken is cooked but the style of the chicken is cold. If you had this at other Chinese restaurant then it's pretty much the same thing. Services could be better. They were not attentive enough even though they were doing nothing and just sitting around. My water cup needed refill but they never came around.
